FAQs

We’ve posted some of the most common, initial inquiry, questions here. But remember, there’s no such thing as a stupid question. If you’re looking for more answers before you commit then pick up the phone tell us what you want.

HOW MUCH DO YOUR BUILDINGS COST?
We don’t make fixed price “Kit” buildings so we have no price list as such. We will price all buildings individually according to their size & specification. We are however able to give guideline prices for various types of building. Why not give us a call to discuss further?
HOW LONG DO THE BUILDINGS TAKE TO CONSTRUCT?
This depends on size and specification. With some small, simple buildings the site construction can be completed in 2-3 days, other more complex buildings can involve several weeks of steel erecting and cladding.

There is however a “lead time” for any building and this varies with our workload. To find out our current lead times please call us

DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?
Most of our buildings will need Planning Permission before beginning construction. There are certain parameters under which small outbuildings or temporary buildings can be built with no Planning Permission or under something called “Permitted Development”.

Larger permanent buildings will need Planning Permission even if they are replacing a previous/redundant building on the same footprint. There are certain circumstances under which Agricultural Buildings under 1000 square metres can be granted Planning Permission on a “fast-track” Prior Notification and we can advise you on whether your building will qualify for this.

All other larger buildings will need Full Planning Permission. You can consult your Local Authority Website for more information.

YSB are happy to provide a Planning Service

ARE YOUR BUILDINGS CE MARKED?
Yes. Yorkshire Steel Buildings received our Certificate of Conformity from BMTRADA on 23rd July 2014. All our buildings are CE Marked and compliant.

We also design to the Eurocodes which are a higher standard of design than the old British Standard BS5950 which some other firms use. BS5950 has been withdrawn by the British Standards Institute and replaced by the Eurocodes so, in our opinion should not be used!

Steel frames in houses?

Yes, we do! In recent years we’ve taken on a number of domestic structural projects. Working with your architect we fabricate domestic steel frame solutions to the same exacting standards as our accredited industrial works.

Steel frames in houses allow huge versatility in design with large open spans and are also quick to build.
